Makar Sankranti is a major harvest festival of India. In West Bengal , we call this harvest festival ‘Sankranti’ or ‘Poush parvan’. It falls on every year 14 or 15 thJanuary. On this auspicious occasion , Bengalies make their own traditional , aristocrat sweet ‘Pitha’or ‘Pithe’. Today I am going to share the recipe of Golap Pitha .
In Bangladesh and West Bengal, pitha is very popular. People make pitha during the winter season. We enjoy this with winter special fresh khejurer gur or date palm Jeggery. Some of the most common pithas are Patisapta, Bhapa, Dudh puli, Gokul, Golap Mug pakon, Nokshi Pitha and many more . The main ingredients of it are flour, rice flour, coconut , milk and ‘khejurer gur’ (date palm jaggery). We make some pitha at any time of the year wheras some pitha which we make during harvest festival . ‘
This Pitha is very popular in Bangladesh and West Bengal. In Bengali, ‘golap’ means rose, it’s rose shaped sweet. made with flour or maida , rice flour and milk.
