In Bengal, we make sweet specially with chana or chena or sweetened cottage chees. In this recipe small chana or chena balls are simmmered in cardamom flavoured thickened milk .

“Bijoya Dashami” ….. The Last Day Of Durga Puja
Durga Puja is the main festival of West Bengal, the greatest festival of Bengali ended with the solemn immersion of Goddess Durga idols. This day is popular as “Bijoya Dashami ” to each Bengali of the World. We spent this day by going through different rituals . All ladies assemble near the Durga idol, apply vermilion on her feet and forehead and then smear vermillion on each other. We wish each other on Bijoya Dashami saying ‘Shubho Bijoya”. After the immersion of idol or visarjan , we touch ours elder’s feet for blessings , same generation males hugging each other which we call “kolakuli”, visit friends and relatives’ houses and exchange ‘Shubho Bijoya’ greetings .
Sweet…. a must needed item to celebrate “Bijoya Dashami”
This celebration is not complete without sweet. Earlier, elders ladies of the joint family used to make various kinds of sweets together such as narkel naru , payesh amd many more . Now it is not possible to make all sweets together, as many of us live in a nuclear family . So now we try to make one or two items to celebrate this festival. I have prepared “Çhanar Payesh” to celebrate this auspicious day. Try following few Bengali Sweet Recipes at home and enjoy with your loved ones!
If you do not have time , then you can make it using store bought paneer .
