Today I have brought you a new type of dal recipe called Awadhi Dal, Dal Sultani or Lucknow Dal. We make varieties of Dal using different kind of pulses. Dals are consumed in every household. Whether you like Dal (pulses) or not, if you are an Indian, you must have dals in your daily diet. Be that as it may, after a day or two. Pulses are important source of protein and fiber. And if you keep any Dal recipe in your daily diet, many of your health problems will be solved.

Today I am sharing a new type of dal recipe for you called Awadhi Dal or Dal Sultani which is very tasty and easy to make. Have you tasted the Awadhi dal in Lucknow? If not, then cook it in your kitchen because it is made in a very different style.

It is said that this Dal was made in the kitchen of the Nawabs of Lucknow. It is made with using tur dal ( Pigeon pea), milk and various Indian spices. The taste of this dal is creamy for giving milk. Let us see the method of making it.
1/2 cup Tur Dal / Tuvar Dal / Arhar Dal / Pegion pea 2 cups Water 1 teaspoon Chopped Green Chillies 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder Salt to taste 2 Green Cardamom 1/2 inch Cinnamon Stick 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds 1 tablespoon Chopped Garlic 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida ( Hing ) 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder 1 teaspoon Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder 2 Dry Red Chillies 1 cup Milk 2 tablespoon Ghee (clarified butter) Add 1/2 cup tur dal in a bowl. Add 2 cups water and clean them properly. Strain the water, again add 2 cups water. Cover and soak the Dal for 2 hours. Add dal in a pressure cooker along with chopped green chilies, turmeric powder, salt, coriander powder and 2 green cardamom and 1 inch Cinnamon Stick. Cook until 4 whistles, let the pressure get released. Add ghee in a kadai, temper ghee with dry red chilies, hing, chopped garlic and cumin seeds. When cumin will be started sputtering, add boiled dal, mix well. Add 1 cup milk and mix properly. Add little salt if required. When dal will be started boiling, switch off the gas. Heat a pan, add ghee. Add kashmiri red chili powder,mix. Garnish dal with this spicy ghee. Enjoy with dal and roti.
